La Marseillaise

The song was written in 1792 by Claude Joseph Rouget de Lisle (1760–1836) and in the same year it was sung by soldiers from Marseille entering Paris, shortly before the storming of the Tuileries Palace. On 14 July 1795, the Marseillaise was declared the national anthem of France.
