This illustration in Voyage Pittoresque de la Grèce depicts the well in Chios in the "stile turc". On the left is a part of the citadel that was built by the Genoese, who ruled the island between 1261 and 1566. In the 18th century, soldiers of the Ottoman Empire were stationed there. There is a mosque with a minaret in the background.
