Showing several romantic embellishments – for instance, the ruins are put at a distance from the viewer and their height is somewhat reduced – this copy falls short of the symbolic quality of the original. It remains, nonetheless, a powerful image. The bilingual title and legend are aimed at both German and French audiences.
