The painting by the Dutch artist Job Adriaenszoon Berckheyde (1630–1693) shows the Amsterdam Stock Exchange. Built between 1608 and 1611 the Exchange served as a meeting point for hundreds of merchants from all over the world. The painting portrays them conducting their business with oranges, newspapers and paintings (on the righthand side) on sale in front of the building. Above the entrance the city coat of arms with the three St. Andrew's crosses dominates the facade.
