At the beginning of the 20th century, several engineers in the USA developed new methods of rationalising workflows. Not only did Frederick Winslow Taylor (1856–1915) and Henry Ford (1864–1947) considerably change the structures of American factories, the scientists Frank (1868–1924) and Lillian Gilbreth (1878–1972) also became famous with their studies on ideal sequences of movements. In this film of 1946, the General Motors Corporation explains some of Gilbreth’s insights by showing two colleagues during a dinner conversation on work routines.
