Staatliches Historisches Museum, Moskau

After plans were initiated in 1872 for a museum dedicated to Russian national history, the State Historical Museum was inaugurated in Moscow in 1883. The construction of the building, located on the northwest side of Red Square, is based on the Old Russian architectural style. Over time, other buildings located on Red Square were incorporated into the museum complex, including Saint Basil's Cathedral, the Novodevichy Monastery, and the Lenin Museum.
