Soho House in Birmingham was the home of Matthew Boulton (1728–1809), a manufacturer and business partner of the Scottish engineer James Watt (1736–1819). Soho House became the meeting place of the Lunar Society, which encouraged connections between industrialists and those who promoted the new sciences. Among the most prominent members of the group were the American inventor and politician.
