The peace manifestation announced for August 1914 did not take place due to the outbreak of war. The iconography of the invitation depicts freemasonry's claim to universal/worldwide authority which the gathering emphasised: the chain of "fraternal hands" clasps around the entire globe. At the same time, the "Great Architect of the Universe" with the mason's hammer, which runs into the circle binding North America to the Eurasian continent, indicates a transcendental principle underlined by the sun radiating out from the creator's hand.
