This painting by the German Heinrich Buchholz (1735–1780) dates from approximately 1770 and depicts Tsar Peter the Great (1672–1725). It is a study for the great portrait produced by Buchholz in 1770 for the Peterhof Palace, the tsar's summer residence in St Petersburg.
