As the leading organization for international women's sport, the Fédération Sportive Féminine Internationale (FSFI) staged a total of four Women's World Games between 1921 and 1934. In 1936, the FSFI disbanded under pressure from the International Olympic Committee. Around 100 female athletes from five countries took part in the first Women's Olympic Games, which were held in Monte Carlo from March 24 to 31, 1921. The photograph shows the women's 800 meter race at the 1921 Games.
