"Mutterglück" (maternal joy) ca. 1900

Under the caption "Mutterglück", the picture postcard from around the turn of the century shows an idyllic mother-child scene. The verse printed below – "Only a mother knows only what it means to love and to be happy" – suggests to the viewer that young women can only find fulfilment and happiness in the maternal role.
