Juliette Récamier (1777–1849)

This bust depicts Juliette Récamier (1751–1830), whose Paris salon was a meeting place for high society and opponents of Napoleon from the end of the 18th century onward. In addition to Récamier's friend Madame de Staël (1766–1817), who also had an influential salon, her guests included François-René de Chateaubriand (1768–1848) and General Jean Baptiste Bernadotte (1763–1794), who fought Napoleon from 1811 onward as Swedish King Charles XIV John.
