Albrecht Dürer (1471–1528), Ansicht von Innsbruck von Norden, ca. 1495 IMG

After his journeyman years, Albrecht Dürer (1471–1528) spent the years 1494–1496 travelling to Northern Italy. One stop on his route was Innsbruck, which he portrayed in this watercolour. In the Early Modern Age, artistic records of such formative voyages were rare. Dürer’s drawings from his travels are an exception to this rule.
