Icon of the Resurrection of Christ (Reverse)

The Orthodox icon "Resurrection" is the work of Yamashita Rin (1857–1939),  a Japanese painter. The icon, produced in 1891, depicts Christ and two angels; its reverse (shown here) shows the Holy Resurrection Cathedral in Tokyo (Japanese 復活 大 聖堂, fukkatsu daiseidō). The inscription (in Japanese and Russian) reads: "To His Imperial Highness, the Heir to the Imperial Russian Throne, Grand Prince Nikolay Alexandrovich, this most humble offering of the Japanese Orthodox Church as a token of its most earnest prayers for his health and well-being. 6 May 1891, Tokyo, in the Meiji era."
