The Dutch Stadthoulder William III of Orange (subsequently King William III of England) imitated the French style in spite of his strong hostility towards Louis XIV. He had the Huguenot architect Daniel Marot redesign Het Loo Palace. The new palace included a copy of the Escalier des Ambassadeurs in Versailles.
