Hercules and Cacus IMG

The two-figure group of Hercules and Cacus by the sculptor Baccio Bandinelli (1493–1560) was unveiled in 1534 and received widespread condemnation with over one hundred scurrilous verses attached to its base upon its completion. The sculpture monumentalises the subjugation of Cacus by having the victor standing erect, locking between his legs the kneeling monster beneath.
