The German publisher and chairman of the German Publishers and Booksellers Association (Börsenverein des Deutschen Buchhandels), Gustav Adolf von Kröner (1836–1911) campaigned for fixed book prices; this was instituted in the course of the "Kröner reform" of 1886/1887 named after him.
