The drawings demonstrate the ambivalent attitude to the mission: While the drawing on the left shows the reception of Christianity (a married Christian-Indian couple kneel in prayer before the cross), the drawing on the right depicts criticism of the mission personnel (an Indian woman with her child, who is working at a loom, is mistreated by an "irascible and arrogant" Dominican monk).
