This painting by Francisco Pradilla Ortiz (1848–1921) shows Muhammad XII. (ca. 1460–1533) also known as Boabidil, the last Emir of Granada (left), handing over the city’s keys to the Catholic monarchs Isabella I of Castile (1451–1504) and Ferdinand II of Aragon (1452–1516) (right). The painting was commissioned by the Spanish Senate in 1879 and was finished by Ortiz in 1882.
