Episodes of the Russian-Japanese War

The lithograph from 1904 shows in the centre of the picture a double portrait of two Russian military officers, Vice-Admiral Skrydlova and General Alexei Nikolaevich Kuropatkin. The portrait is framed by depictions illustrating events of the war. At the top of the image is the title: "Russia's War with Japan in 1904", followed at the bottom by the words: "By Sea and Land". The Russian-Japanese War on 8th February 1904 was triggered by the dispute over territories in Manchuria and Korea. The conflict ended on 5th September 1905 with Russia's defeat.
