Szene im Militärhospital von Haslar 1855 IMG

This wood engraving is one of a number of images depicting the suffering of the British army during the siege of Sevastopol. The soldiers did not die in combat, but died of disease, hunger and the cold. The publication of these images made the circumstances of the army a public issue and ultimately resulted in the fall of the British government in January, 1855.
