Domus ecclesiae – Christ walking on water

The "Domus ecclesiae" in Dura Europos in modern Syria is one of the earliest known churches and Christian house churches. It is located in a former domestic home. Its walls were covered in frescoes showing among other scenes the earliest depictions of Jesus Christ ever found, dating back to ca. 235. This photograph shows Christ walking on water with Simon Peter (right corner) while some of his apostles are looking on from a boat in the distance.
