This photograph from 1905, subsequently hand-colored, shows the Scottish missionary and physician Dugald Christie (1855–1936) (outer left) with patients and staff of the hospital in Mukden (also Shenyan), the capital of the province of Liaoning in northeastern China. Christie had come to China in 1882 as a medical missionary, where he worked as a doctor until 1923. In 1912, he founded the Mukden Medical College, the first foreign medical college in northeast China.
