Commemorative Plaque for the Fortifications of Vauban

The plaque calls attention to the importance of the fortifications for the stabilization of these borders. It was unveiled in 2008 in Mont-Louis on the occasion of the inclusion of Vauban's edifices in the UNESCO World Heritage List. The inscription reads: "The FORTIFICATIONS OF VAUBAN, inscribed in the World Heritage List, represent at the end of the 17th century the apogee of bastioned defence systems. They helped to define the borders of Europe and influenced military architecture throughout the world for more than two centuries."
