The Civil Rights March on Washington, also known as March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom, took place on August 28th, 1963 and ended with Dr Martin Luther King's (1929–1968) famous "I have a dream" speech. Over 200,000 people from different organizations gathered to protest against racial discrimination and in support for civil, political, and economic legislation of African-Americans. In 1964, the Civil Rights Act passed.
