The "Old English Court" in Moscow in the 16th and 17th centuries was the seat of the English trading company Muscovy Company, which had a monopoly on trade with Russia and was the first joint-stock company in England. Ivan IV (1530–1584) allocated the building to the company as a branch office and warehouse from 1556. In addition to storerooms, there were also living quarters and a banquet hall in the building, which served not only trade but also diplomatic relations between the two countries.
