Giovanni Segantini (1858–1899), Alpen-Triptychon: Werden, Detail, 1898–1899, Öl auf Leinwand, St. Moritz, Segantini-Museum http://www.segantini-museum.ch.

In his painting, Giovanni Segantini (1858–1899) concentrated totally on nature and agrarian scenes, particularly in the characteristic Alpine landscape. His pointillist painting was especially suitable for reproducing the light conditions in high mountains. Having spent his youth in Milan, the painter gradually made the high Alps of Graubünden the centre of his life – during the same period he achieved professional success.
