Affaire Dreyfus 1894–1899: l'heure de la justice a sonné, 1899

This illustration depicts the intervention of the figure of Justice in the Dreyfus case, as explained by the words "L'heure de la justice a sonné" ("The hour of justice has struck") on the left of the card. Dreyfus himself is shown at the upper edge of the picture. In her scales, Justice is weighing the heads of the minister of war, Auguste Mercier (1833–1921) (right) and the officer Armand du Paty de Clam (1853–1916), two of case's principal protagonists. At the foot of the plinth on which Justice is standing, other actors in the case and social groups can be seen fleeing the reckoning and its consequences.
