Mosque of Sultan Al-Ghuri, Cairo

This black-and-white photograph shows the Mosque and Mausoleum of Sultan Qansuh al-Ghuri (1441–1516), also known as al-Ghuriya, which was built between 1503 and 1505. Published in 1852, the photograph was included in Maxime du Camp's (1822–1894) Egypte, Nubie, Palestine et Syrie: Dessins photographiques recueillis pendant les années 1849, 1850 et 1854. It was the first book that included photographs in an attempt to support the travelogue's claim to authenticity.
